YUCKY YUCKY YUCKY TUESDAY

OHMYGOODNESS!!!

The Bluegrass state has been hit by a winter weather storm that definitely has been one for the ages!

Good ole SuperMario and the rest of the front office staff here at Applebee’s Park braved the arctic blast and traveled into work, one by one, slowly but surely.

I was the last of the staff to actually make it into work, seeing that I live outside the city in neighboring Richmond, Ky. Normally, on my way to work, its a hop, skip and a jump away…about 25 minutes. Well, after it was all said and done, todays, SCARY ride into work lasted an hour and a half…

If you haven’t made the trip outside the door and onto the roadways just yet, here’s a photo taken from kentucky.com of just how bad it was on Tuesday morning, throughout the afternoon and how its supposed to be on Wednesday…yucky, yucky, yucky!

BE CAREFUL!!!

Powerful Week for America While the Countdown to Baseball Season Continues…

So HELLLLLLLLLO Legends fan and as always THANK YOU for taking time to stop by the hottest blog in all of the minor leagues….Diggin’ In to the Legends!

So, it’s Tuesday afternoon and I took a break from work on this day to sit back and take in what was happening in this great land we call, the United States of America. The 44th President of the United States of America was inaugurated and his name is Barack Obama. What a historic day and time, isn’t it? If you’re not moved in some form or another, we might need to stop and check you for a pulse :)

Big L Celebrates MLK Day 028.jpgBut, speaking of historic…on Monday, the start of the work week for yours truly and the rest of the gang here in the Legends front office brought a national holiday…Martin Luther King Day. Millions of people around the nation celebrated this day. Here on the home front, here in Lexington…Big L and good ole SuperMario were among thousands of area residents who took part in the annual march through downtown Lexington on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The march is held each year on the King holiday to commemorate the life of the civil rights leader. The march began as a small event on the University of Kentucky campus in the 1970s, but has grown dramatically through the years and now enjoys support and participation from businesses, organizations, schools, churches and individual citizens from across the entire region.

83 DAYS UNTIL the sweet start of 2009 Lexington Legends baseball…Ohmygoodness..I hope everyone is ready for a season of Fun and Games…Just Add You. Myself and the rest of the Legends staff are hammering out all the neat and super fun promotions for this year, so if you haven’t gone ahead and bought your season tickets for the year OR haven’t bought a mini-plan for as cheap as $64 then you should get on that ASAP. It’s just way too good to pass up. Check out this linkIt’ll take you to the Legends ticket page, where you can learn more about what we have to offer. And, more importantly, how much everything will cost you.

For all you faithful Big L trackers out there…Here’s a list of some upcoming Big L sightings across the bluegrass state:

Our president is a baseball fan!

obama.jpg

Albeit, an white sox fan, but a fan of America’s game nonetheless.  It has been a patriotic week here at Lexington’s home for America’s favorite pastime.  Yesterday, Big L and SuperMario headed downtown to celebrate MLK Day, and here at the front office we are fearlessly preparing for the 9th annual National Anthem Tryouts.  If you haven’t decided to tryout yet, do it.  We are hoping (and planning) for the most diverse crowd of solo singers, instrumentalists, girl groups and boy bands yet… and if you and your friends have ever wanted to be the next New Kids on the Block, well here is your chance to show your talent.

To make this easy for you, we’ve even posted our registration form right on the website!  So call in, sign up and try out… or else everyone in Fayette Mall will have to hear our staff sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, and believe me, its not always a pretty sound.

This political transition has been ingrained in the fabric of our country, and this year it will be no different for the world of Minor League baseball.  The Brooklyn Cyclones recently announced a new promotion featuring our new President Obama.  Check out their website to see what they have planned for the Baracklyn Cyclones night this summer.

Speaking of promotions… we hope everyone reading is prepared for a summer of fun and games here at Applebee’s Park… literally.  From our game nights, to Intern Survivor, to Splash Day and Superhero Night, we have some great things planned for our fans this summer.  To keep you on your toes though, most of these will be kept hush hush until the time is right to release the force that is the full Legends Promotional Calendar.

Oh yes.. it will be awe-some.

Its Thirsty Thursday!!

For all of those who are desperately missing this popular Applebee’s Park promotion, I have good news… its only 92 days until our first Thirsty Thursday of the year!  This also means its only 88 days away to Opening Day, 30 days away from the 2009 National Anthem Tryouts, and for those of you who really like countdowns, only 617 days away from the 2010 Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games!

For the out of towners reading today, the Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games are coming to Lexington, KY next September and will be hosted at the Kentucky Horse Park.  Lexington is famous around the world for our contributions to the horse industry and we are excited to see all of these 4-legged equestrian “Legends” come here to compete in this world famous event, and the city of Lexington has been counting down from 1000 days out.

Back in the baseball world however, life here at the Orchard continues to pick up pace as we inch closer to April 13th.  This week we’ve been welcoming our 2009 gaggle of interns and showing them the ropes to see what it is like to work in the minor leagues.  Speaking of interns, i thought it might be fun to show a few before & after pictures of SuperMario and myself from first year here to where we are now!

MLB.com reporter, Alyson Footer posted an updated story of Legends catcher, Max Sapp, who has been battling viral meningitis..Check that below as well:

Sapp Max_4399.jpgHOUSTON — Catching prospect Max Sapp, hospitalized for nearly a month with viral meningitis, was discharged and returned home Friday.

“He’s very glad to be back home,” said his agent, Doug Rogalski, in an e-mail Friday afternoon.

The 20-year-old Sapp had been hospitalized since Dec. 11, when he was taken to an Orlando-area emergency room following an apparent seizure after completing his early afternoon workout.

Sapp was diagnosed with viral meningitis and chronic sinus disease. Doctors determined that the sinus condition led to an abnormal susceptibility to the meningitis virus.

Sapp’s course of treatment included heavy doses of antibiotics to treat the meningitis and pneumonia, and included a surgical procedure to rectify his sinus issues on Dec. 14.

Sapp required the use of a respirator for more than two weeks after suffering three episodes where he stopped breathing.

Alright, Legends Fans…that’s about it on yet another successful edition of Diggin’ In to the Legends…be sure to keep your webpage locked into minor league baseball’s HOTTEST blog!

until next time,

baseball is coming!

What do Jedi, Munson, Fletch, Founder and Ramrod have in common?  They are team names of course.

This week our office split into 5 teams to kick off a friendly competition among all of our staff members.  The task at hand is to get the word out to Central Kentucky about our fast approaching baseball season and what we have to offer this year!

We’ve made a lot of great improvements over this past fall and since the new year has arrived its time to let people know about everything we will be offering for the 2009 season.  If you all haven’t looked through the website lately, all of our new ticket packages, promotions, and our Kids Club and Silver Slugger’s Club information is up to date and ready for your viewing pleasure.

In another note, Legends catcher, Max Sapp that Mario blogged about a few days ago is continuing to recover from his bout with Menengitis.  Check out the full release on Sapp’s recovery by clicking the link below:

Until next time, keep it classy!

97 Days and Counting

Now that we’ve returned from a relaxing holiday break, its full speed ahead to prepare for opening day.  Its hard to do with all of the holiday food and candy still sitting in our stomachs, but now that its 2009, the office here at Applebee’s Park is getting ready for one of the busiest times of the year.

On our second day back today, Big L was already busy with 3 school visits in Winchester.  The Legends staff has stayed active as well, working with the United Way to help promote their upcoming campaign.

As many of you may know, the Legends have donated 2 tickets to every person who donates to the United Way as an encouragement to the Central KY community to give back and support this great organization.  Check out the link below to see some us in all our video glory…

In the meantime stay classy, and we’ll see you soon at the Orchard!

BREAKING NEWS: Former LEGENDS Player Deals With Serious Illness..

Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, Happy New Years and welcome into the 151st edition of Diggin’ in to the Legends on this 5th day of January!

It’s back to work at Applebee’s Park as everyone in the Legends front office has their eye on the prize as the countdown to Opening Countdown begins and all the wheels start getting rolling! The home opener is Monday, April 13, 2009 and we are ready for another great season of FUN and of course, Legends games!

Speaking of getting back to work…that’s definitely what I’ve got to get back to doing now.

DSCF3460.JPGBut, before I go, take a look at the article from MLB.com reporter as she writes on Max Sapp, who has been with the Legends the last two seasons at the catcher position.  He has been very ill over the last few months due to a bout with Meningitis. Read Below to find out more on his situation. All of the Lexington Legends wish the best for Max and hope he has a speedy recovery during this difficult time.

“HOUSTON — Catching prospect Max Sapp, hospitalized for more than two weeks with a severe case of meningitis, took a first step toward recovery on Wednesday when he was able to breathe on his own without the help of a respirator.

According to general manager Ricky Bennett, the 20-year-old Sapp will soon begin therapy to recover from the illness, which has left him with significant memory loss.

“He doesn’t know who the president is; he doesn’t know who his girlfriend is,” Bennett said. “He doesn’t have all of his memory back. He was unconscious for quite some time. It’s a blessing he’s with us. It’s pretty scary stuff.”

Meningitis is an infection of the fluid of the spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain. People sometimes refer to it as spinal meningitis. Meningitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection.

Sapp was breathing with the help of a respirator after undergoing surgery to repair a severe sinus infection and contracting meningitis, as reported by the Houston Chronicle Tuesday night. According to the report, Sapp was unable to breathe on his own because of occasional seizures.

Sapp is expected to be hospitalized for quite some time as he continues his recovery.

How this will affect Sapp, the club’s first-round pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, from a professional standpoint remains to be seen.

“We’re not thinking about baseball right now,” Bennett said. “We have to get him healthy and back to normal. That’s all that matters right now.”

until next time,

keep it SUPER fans!
