BREAKING NEWS: Legend Matt Cusick Speaks About Trade..

LEXINGTON, KY — The Houston Astros and New York Yankees agreed to a
trade Wednesday evening that sent Lexington Legend second baseman Matt
Cusick to the Yankees in exchange for veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins.

“I have mixed feelings about the trade,” Cusick said Thursday. “Of
course, I’m thrilled to be apart of the winningest team in professional
baseball and the most prestigious organization in sports, but on the
other hand, I’m saying goodbye to a lot of good friends, players and
coaches.”

Cusick, 22, was the Astros’ 10th-round pick in the 2007
First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern California.
In his first full-season of professional baseball in Class A Lexington,
Cusick batted .285 (100-for-351) in 94 games, with 55 runs scored, 23
doubles, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and 40 walks.

“The Astros are a first class organization,” Cusick added. “It was an
honor to play for them and have them draft me and believe in me.”

Among the highlights of Cusick’s tenure in Lexington, included
hitting a leadoff home-run in three consecutive games in April, an
unconfirmed minor league baseball record, from April 14th through April
16th. The former USC Trojan and 2008 SAL Mid-Season All-Star came
inches from adding a fourth-consecutive in Hickory, but settled for a
double off the left-centerfield wall, instead.

On Wednesday, he concluded his Legends career with a lead-off
home-run against the Hagerstown Suns. It was Cusick’s ninth home-run of
the season.

LaTroy Hawkins was 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA for the Yankees this
season after signing a one-year, $3.75 million contract in December.
The Astros will be Hawkins’ sixth team in his 14 year major league
career.

The road crew for the concert got started early this morning packing in different parts of the stage and they will continue until everything is a go.
Take a look at some of the pictures of the workers…doing work.

This past weekend, the Legends hit the road to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds in a 4-game set.
They continued their winning ways as of late and won Friday & Saturday nights game but lost in a close game 7-5 on Sunday.
They have Delmarva again tonight at 7:05pm then head to Hagerstown for another 4 games then back to the Orchard to open up a long home series with the Lake County Captains & the Asheville Tourists.

When everyone comes to the games be sure to check out my brand new, sweet and very “SUPER” belt buckle.
It’s a spinner belt buckle at that.
I’m sure EVERYONE will enjoy it just as much as I do.
I’ll be wearing it pretty much from here on out. Just so you know :)

Hey Yall!!!

Hey YALL! I reckon yoons’ are enjoying this here blog, eh?
Haha.
How’s that for an opening line?

Last night (Thursday) was Boots & Beer night here at Applebee’s Park. And, if I must say…It was a pretty happenin’ night.
A majority of our front office staff showed off their best country outfits for the fans.
Yours truly, good ole SuperMario even suited up in a cowboy hat, plaid shirt and a sheriff’s badge.

It was a night truly for the ages and for folks who were at the park, they got to not only hear our Guest PA annoucer, Ryan Lemond, but they were also treated with me serving as the on-field announcer.
I even did a fan-favorite…singing, Take Me Out to the Ballgame!
:)

But, onto Friday’s Famous Mustache…
The one, the only, famous television personality…Geraldo Rivera!

Geraldo

Gerald Michael Rivera was born July 4, 1943 known by his television name of Geraldo Rivera or simply Geraldo, is an American attorney, reporter and former talk show host. He is known to have an affinity for dramatic, high-profile stories. Rivera hosts the news magazine program, Geraldo at Large and appears regularly on Fox News Channel.

He is usually a loose-cannon when he is on television, but he is known for getting “the big story!”
Now, he has NO Lexington Legends connection…YET.
But, stay tuned never say never.

Make sure you come on out to the ballpark this weekend as we have a plethora of events going on…from the Guest PA announcer continuning on, to the Bluegrass State Games going on with the “Subway Guy” Jared Fogle stopping by for the Opening Ceremonies, Horse Appreciation Night on Saturday and our annual Faith Night event featuring Mark Schultz on Sunday!

Lots and lots of fun stuff happening. Don’t miss it!

keep it super FANS,

the sweetest blog of your life

Today was a pretty normal day in the office.  We begin an 8- day homestand against the Rome Braves at 7:05pm tonight so the atmosphere is always a little different when the team is in town.  We just finished one of the longest breaks of the season with the team traveling for 8 days, so today is a good preparation with the big nights we have going on here this weekend.

At approximately 3:52pm however, things changed.  One of our interns (Atomic Adam is his alias) walked in with 4 ginormous boxes FULL of tasty Nestle Drumstick treats.  While he was stalking the office freezer I was fortunate to get a nice little action shot for this entry.

As you can see, the we will have our work cut out for us over the next few days as we try to eat what we can before everyone else in the front office gets to it.   Its a big problem when you have so much ice cream that you can’t eat all of it, but you can’t just let it sit there either.

In other activities, tomorrow is “Boots & Beer Night” at Applebee’s Park.  We’ll have our Thirsty Thursday discount with $1 beer and pepsi products as well as plenty of cowboy boots, country music, and plaid to get us pumped up for the Alan Jackson and Leann Womack here in less than 2 weeks!

Lets be honest there will be more Beer than Boots here, but it also gives our staff another reason to bring back the Jorts from May so we are pumped.

Stay tuned for more pictures during the homestand.  If you want to capture the live action you can come out and see us here at the Orchard or check out Late Night with the Legends on the home page to see what we get into every night as we cheer on our team to win a game!

Famous Staches…

Hello ALL:

I hope everyone had a FANTABULOUS weekend.
I of course, enjoyed another GREAT weekend away from the ballpark.
Whether it was hitting up the downtown scene or being at Rupp Arena in Lexington both on Friday and Saturday night…I definitely had a blast.

For those keeping count…I’m officially OUT in the Stache Bash ’08 hair-fest, but some in our front office are keeping it going and when you see the updated pictures, I’m sure you will enjoy them very much.

Onto today’s Famous Stache of the Day..

ron burgundyLegendary Anchorman, Ron Burgundy.
:)

He is a five-time (local) emmy award-winning journalist, he is the main anchor for the KVWN Channel Four News Team from 1964 to 1977. Always confident and well-dressed, he is nevertheless ignorant, egoistical, misogynistic, and narcissistic,
but also remains the rock for the entire group. He develops an
infatuation with newcomer Veronica Corningstone, initially having
trouble wooing her with tried and true measures that allegedly won him
many bimbo-type women in the past. He has a great fondness for a good glass of scotch-whiskey, poetry, and his best friend/pet dog Baxter, and plays a mean jazz pipe. He refers to his fists as Jack Johnson and Tom O’Leary, calls his arms “guns”, and is most definitely not afraid to resort to fisticuffs.”

Thanks to my good friends at wikipedia.org for helping with the bio for Mr. Burgundy.

The homestand kicks off THIS WEDNESDAY night as its Ladies Night here at Applebee’s Park, which means
Ladies (and gentlemen) can buy one ticket and get another for FREE when you present your Sun Tan City card at the box office!
It’s a 8-day homestand, so there is no reason that you should miss a chance at stopping by to catch a game.

That’s all for now, but TRUST ME, I’ll be writing back soon.
Thanks for reading.

keep it SUPER fans!

the meal wheel

In any office you work, you will inevitably be forced to make tough decisions.  In the Legends office, the toughest decision anyone will have to make is where to eat for lunch.

We face this midday quandary almost every day of the week.  Mexican or chinese?  Raising Canes or Chik-fil-a?  Somedays are easier…. such as Pasta Bar Thursday.  The problem is not even that there are too many choices.  We just don’t know how to make them.  Today for example, you would have thought that deciding where to eat was like deciding our collective fate.  Seth wanted Chipotle because he had a coupon, Justin wanted McDonald’s because he had a coupon… a few wanted to go to Chik-fil-a, the rest of us just didn’t care.  Alex of course will always throw out Culver’s, I think we’ve eaten there twice.  Half of us ended up at Chik-fil-a, half ended up at Chipotle.

Our handy interns (they call themselves the Ron Borkowski Sweat Hogs) even made a product of genius to solve this issue that we face.  I called it the meal wheel and I’m sticking with that name.  The wheel is apparently a spherical piece of material with different restaurants listed in different sections.  Its common sense really, where the wheel lands, thats where you eat.  Unfortunatley their “Pig Pen” cubicle really is a pig pen, so we were unable to locate this instrument when we needed it most… today around noon.

Photo face.

Recently we announced on here the beginning of the Lexington Legends 1st annual Stache Bash here at “The Orchard.”  For this competition we of course took the “before photo” of all of our competitors, which in turn started a random picture frenzy with the Legends camera.  So below is a product of what happens when you leave a camera unattended to in the office:

Of course we have more photos of this caliber however we have to save a few for later because lets face it… no one can handle all of this awesomeness in one blog.

I hope you all enjoy… stay tuned for more on Stache Bash 2008!

Stache Bash 2008

Well, I’m sure many of you all AREN’T aware but TODAY (Thursday, July 3rd, 2008) officially started the Stache Bash here at Applebee’s Park.
What’s a stache bash you ask?

I’ll tell ya..

Rules:
-Men cannot shave after July 3rd.  If they decide to shave AT ALL during the
competition, they will be eliminated… and mocked.

-Each participant will be photed on July 3rd for a beginning picture.  Each
Wednesday they will be photed for an update of facial hair growth.

-All men who make it to July 23rd will then compete in a contest at the
Legends game.  On July 23rd they will be permitted to shave their face into
the best “stache style”.  The fans will then get to vote for the winner who
will win a free shaving kit/package/treatment as a prize.

-As a perk, the Legends will be celebrating famous faces throughout history
during games in the month of July including of course Big L.

So with all that being said, lets celebrate our first famous face…

Hulk HoganThe LEGENDARY…Hulk Hogan.

For people that know me well..
I’m a HUGE fan of this man.
So big of a fan, that not only do I have two 3-hour plus DVDs on this guy’s life…but, I have a Hulk Hogan plush doll in my bedroom.
I know…wild, huh?

I could go on and on and on about this BROTHER…but, I’ll spare everyone from that.

Not so sure how long I’ll last in this Stache Bash contest, but I’m a good sport, so we’ll see what happens.

More to come, soon!

keep it SUPER fans!
